Organic Psyllium Seeds: Benefits and Uses

Psyllium is rapidly gaining popularity within people who want to boost their healthy eating habits. However, it has been used in food production for a while. Organic Whole Psyllium Seeds come from the Plantago plant species, and are used to produce mucilage. Mucilage is a natural food thickener which with its viscosity easily beats cornstarch.  Please note that Organic Psyllium Seed absorb liquid extremely fast, thus when taking psyllium, you need to drink more water than usual. Wash down the daily serving of seeds with a lot of liquid right away and drink plenty during the day as well. Organic Psyllium Seeds are an excellent source of Iron. Furthermore, because Psyllium Whole Seeds are highly mucilaginous, they benefit the GI tract and contribute to proper digestion.

The recommendations about maximum psyllium dosage vary. But the best way to go is to start small (no more than a teaspoon) and increase bit by bit depending on how your body reacts.

Psyllium Husk vs. Psyllium Whole Seeds

Psyllium Whole Seeds contain both, the seed and the shell (or husk). To make Psyllium Husks, pressure is applied to the seeds, and layers of it are removed, forming Psyllium husk.

How to Take Organic Psyllium Seeds

Psyllium Seeds do requite pre-soaking. Take 1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons of seeds and soak them in a glass of water (250ml) for 10 hours (or overnight). Psyllium Seeds will soak in the water and turn quite gelatinous. Drink the seeds together with water. As the seeds will absorb more moisture while in your body, it is important that you keep drinking water all throughout the day. Moreover, you can also add the soaked Organic Whole Psyllium Seeds to your oatmeal, smoothie or morning yogurt.

Do not consume Organic Whole Psyllium Seeds without water. If you have difficulty swallowing, do not take Whole Psyllium Seeds.

Some people claim that psyllium has no flavor, but others say they don’t like the taste. With that in mind, it’s all about the individual reaction of your taste buds. But don’t worry, even if you dislike the flavor, it can be easily masked with something sweet, like juice or fruit.
The product keeps well in a dry and cool place, so you can buy Organic Psyllium Seeds in bulk. Store the seeds in a pantry or cupboard, away from direct sunlight.
